Step 1: Backup and Preparation

A true clean install will delete everything on your C: drive, including applications, user profiles, and hidden AppData folders. Back up your essential files to an external drive or a private cloud server before proceeding.
Even though Windows offers a "Keep my files" option during the reset process, we highly recommend selecting "Remove everything." Step 2: Trigger the Cloud Reinstall (Settings UI)
If you can still boot into your Windows desktop, initiating the cloud reinstall takes only a few clicks.
- Press Win + I to open the Settings app.
- Navigate to System > Recovery.
- Under the "Recovery options" section, click the Reset PC button.
- A blue dialog box will appear. Select Remove everything to ensure a true clean install.
- On the next screen, you will be asked "How would you like to reinstall Windows?". Select Cloud download.
- Click Next, review the summary, and click Reset.
Your PC will immediately begin downloading the 26H2 image. Depending on your internet speed, this download can take anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes. Once downloaded, the PC will reboot automatically and begin the installation phase.
Alternative Method: The PowerShell Force Trigger
If your Settings app is crashing, unresponsive, or experiencing extreme lag, you can bypass the graphical interface and force the recovery menu to open directly via the command line.
systemreset -factoryreset
Running this command immediately spawns the "Choose an option" window. From there, you simply follow the same steps: choose Remove everything followed by Cloud download.
Post-Installation: Securing Your Fresh System
